Talking HArdened Pushrods

OK, got my Comp 212 218 .522 .529 114LSA with 918 springs on the road. Gonna try and get this baby installed in the next few weeks. I've decided not to put in titanium retainers at this time, because I'm sure I'll change cams later to something bigger and I'll do it then, along with a ported oil pump and a double roller chain. I do, however, plan on installing some hardened pushrods and want to know what most of y'all are running or recomend and where to get them, also how much $$$ did they run you. 7.400" is the correct size right?

TIA! Ryan

I would not recomend changing to the hardened pushrods just for one simple fact: would you rather change bent pushrods or bent valves?

right now ... with that dam, you don't need them. If you are going to an XE-r lobe, or something with more lift, then you might consider them, but right now ... you don't need them.

Nice choice of cam. Yes, 7.400" is the correct size you need. I would get the push rods as a little insurance policy. Mine are Thunder Racing and were $110.

Its not necessary to run hardened pushrods, but if you do, the 7.4" length is correct. Its is just a hair longer than the factory pushrod, so it makes up for the smaller cam base circle. It should keep your valvetrain geometry in check.

Before my cam was installed I was a little hisitant about pushrods. I know that that springs were a must but on the pushrods, most of the people I asked told me to go ahead and invest on a set of hardened ones.
Even these recommend you get them with cam a installation.

If I had a F-body I might change the pushrods but with the truck and it being an automatic I just don't think you would really need the hardned pushrods. I would just rather change pushrods (if something were to go wrong) than to yank the heads and have bent valves. Anyway just curious, I've heard alot of people dead-set on hardned pushrods.

Thanks for the opinions guys....looks like a split decision!! Nice poitn you brought up Steve, didn't think of that. Also, I'm really leaning towards rods because of what Big Tex said...seems logical. Oh, and Thanks Tiburon..back atcha'!!! How do you like the cam? Do you know what kind of RWHP you gained with it?

Still undecided on the rods though....I'm heading to TR to check theirs out!
