Head questions
Ok what are you 4.8 guys doing to your heads as far as "work"?? I know port polish, but if I was to take it to a machine shop to have this done should I replace the valve springs too? If so which ones should I use for a stock cam? 918's or is this not nessecary? I plan on a cam in the future but not right now. also what should they be ported to? any what did you guys pay as a ball park figure since i dont want to be rolled under the bus!!

I paid $250 for a pair of heads on e-Bay with a 3-angle valve job and .005 shaved off. The new aluminum heads don't really need much in the way of porting because they already flow very well.
You might want to check out the heads available on e-bay. Mine came from a machine shop that sells them regularly on there. That way you won't have any down-time waiting for your originals to come back from the shop.

If you plan on a cam later then definitely install some 918's or the like. It will make the future cam swap much easier and faster. While you are in there replace the stock push rods, they are flexy and known to snap at higher revs.
As far as porting/polishing you will probably be better off finding some used Stage I heads. The machine work will cost you nearly as much.

5 angle valve job and 1.5 stage port job anymore is a waste with the truck intake and the range of cams most select assuming youll be staying NA. If you want to raise compression go with a slimer gasket like cometics
FYI the 4.8 and 5.3 heads are identical only difference in motors is the stroke
