Default Head work recommendations for boosted engine?

I posted this in the forced induction section, would like yalls input as well....
I'm currently having a 6.0 liter built for my truck and may have some minor head work done if money allows it. Not wanting to go extreme, but wanted to know if there was any minor head work i could have done that will help out and work well with forced induction. So far the build consist of the following...
Lq4 6.0 block stock bore
6.0 liter heads
Diamond forged dished pistons
stock rods
stock crank
Comp cam 224/230 .581/.592 114lsa
comp cam 918 springs and titanium retainers
Federal mogul rod and main bearings
Arp head, main studs and rod bolts
Whipple twin screw supercharger running approx 10 psi boost

thanks for any ideas and input

I am on my 7th different 6 liter combination right now. Some of them had ported heads, some stock. I had a set of TEA stage 2's that had some really good flow #'s and I had a set of 317's that I ported (using the TEA's as a reference) I have ran the stock cam, an '02 LS6 cam, and my current custom cam 222/228 on a 114. I will list a few combos and the respective 1/8th mile performance:

Bone stock 6 liter 7.91 at 86

Same as above except LS6 cam 7.93 at 86

Same as above with TEA heads 7.87 at 86

.030 over, custom cam, 7.77 at 87
custom pistons, home ported
317's

Current combo is stock 6 liter 7.95 at 87 so far-there is more in it
with the 222/228 and unported
heads

So, it has been my experience that ported heads don't help as much with FI as they would NA. I had similar experience on my supercharged Stang-Put on a set of killer aluminum heads and slowed down a tenth!! My recomendation would be go for it as long as it doesn't cost two arms and a leg. Just don't expect to pick up tremendous performance.

i have asked this question a few times and i still dont really know what to believe. many people say it wont help and let the compresor do the work for you. others say it will only help a little. basicaly help keep the IAT's down a little since you dont have to push as much boost to get the same flow. then yet others that swear you will get more power on a boosted set up with heads than you will NA.

one thing that most agree on is that just puting the heads on wont help a lot but once you pully back up to your previous boost level you will get the power then.

I'd tend to agree that high dollar fully ported heads on a boosted setup may be over kill. I bet there is more power from them, but how much more over stock heads?

I see the biggest benefit for ported heads on a boosted setup is the clean combustion chambers which could lower your CR some and help fend off detonation.

Thanks for the input guys. I had heard the same thing about minimal gains if any at all with ported heads on a fi set up. I might let them clean them up a bit, but thats about all. I'm thinking I could do better by spending my money on finally getting a set of long tube headers and getting rid on these damn shorties. My end goal with this is to hit 500 or more rwhp and torque. If i can do that I think i'll be happy for a while.

I recently had my 6.0 gone through, and while apart had some minor port work done to the heads. I stayed with the stock cam, but used 1.85 slp rockers.

My previous boost prior to the engine rework was 7 1/2 lbs. Once back together, it was only making 5 1/2 lbs of boost, which I'm guessing was due to better airflow?

I had to drop down 2 sizes on the pulley to get boost back up to 7 1/2 lbs.

Previous best at the track in 55 degree air was 13.4, which you can usually add a second to in the Az heat of summer. A few weeks ago at the track, with temps still above 100 degrees it started off at 14.8, then proceeded to drop to 14.4, and then 13.8 at 98 degrees, which leads me to believe that with some tuning it may be capable of running in the 12's once we add another 2 lbs of boost, and also leads me to believe the porting of the heads is definitly worth some ponies!!
