header bolts backing out

I've had the stainless bolts on my Avalanche since they first came out. I haven't had to touch them since I heat cycled them and retorqued the bolts almost three years ago.

I put mine in at 85lbs., not knowing because the directions didn't say. I had a air rachet to get to the tight areas, but didn't break any bolts. When I found out what the specs, were, I about freaked!! Will anything happen being that tight?

well....you probably messed up the aluminum threads in the head. If you remove them ,they will probably be stipped if they aren't already.
85 ft lbs on a small bolt like that??? Why?? Do some research if you don't know prior to the install.
If I were you, I wouldn't have even posted that I did that.
My directions show the torque specs.

you can also put a little bit of loctite jsut under the head of the flange on the bolt wher ethe threads do not touch the head, that will hold them in place (just like rockers)

No way you got them that tight. It's not physically possible. The bolt would break or strip out the aluminum at less then half that.

I'm not sure if they are that tight. I was just using a 85lbs. air rachet. I checked them a few days ago, and they are not stripped and no leaks anywhere, thank god! I posted it to see if anybody else has done this to see what, if anything will happen. JBA install instructions did not have it in there, and my stock manifolds where tight as hell. so just though I would tighten them as tight as the stockers.

The stock ones are not torqued that tight from the factory. They too get about 18-20 ft lbs as well. The bolts just seize up over a period of time. Sometimes they even break during removal.
When torqueing bolts into aluminum or when torqueing small bolts down, use recommended torque specs. You can easily find this on the web.

I tightened in the right sequence and went with 30lbs, no problem. Not recommending that - do so at your own risk.
