Default Header/Welding Question

I have a buddy that was parting out his truck and has a set of Bassani Mid's that I can score for a pretty good deal, There is one thing wrong with them, the EGR tube has a small crack where it meets the primary tube. My truck doesn't have EGR, So I was thinking of just cutting it off and welding it, They are coated headers and I would assume they would have to be sandblasted or the coating ground away before welding. Would I run into any problems with them?

You can weld over the coating with flux core wire (211mp) it burns through pretty much everything...But yes the correct method would be to weld to bare/clean metal with mig/tig...but depending on the size of the crack you may want to gouge/grind it a little to get better penetration...I always wanted a set of Bassannis.............

If you cut it off you would want to make a "patch" out of metal to span the hole (around 5/8" iirc)

Yeah I think I'm going to end up making a patch for it. Anyone know a good place to get them re-coated?

Cut the tube off, clean the are that needs to be welded to.. Have at it.. Only prob you might get is more rusting in that are vs others... JET HOT for the recoat. Best stuff I have seen

2-11 will burn through most stuff. My opinion is your better off with MIG.With that thin of wall thickness of tubing.Depending on what diameter flux core you use? It's a really stiff wire that needs the base metal to be heated more to consume the filler material, than MIG does.Thin tubing and excess heat don't mix well.Grab a roll thats 0.30 ga or smaller. But if you don't have MIG as an option?FC is fine.Just grab a piece of scrap metal (the same thickness as the headers) and set your heat.plus when you coat any material. It absorbs into the metal. You may clean the outside pretty good.Garaunteed it'll still affect the weld though.

Yeah I agree with what the other guys have told you so far. Jet Hot is great, they did my long tubes when new and the price was $340. Just to give you an idea of what it can cost. I had a friend cut my egr pipe off and TIG over the hole. It sure cleans up the look of the headers when you don't need the pipe there. Good luck and post some finished pics of them.

Just wondering, can ceramic coating be touched up? or can it be painted over with a high temp paint? just curious.
