285/70-17 or 285/75-16? There is no 285/75-17 Duratrac; I'm running the 285/70-17s and love them, that works out to about a 32.8- inch tire. Which rear gear do you have, 3.42s? You have a 5.3/6-speed combo right?

I'm not sure how I missed your gears in your original post. Oh well. Your gears do not come close to matching your tires. I have 3.73s and have considered jumping up to 4.10s or more to compensate for the exact same tires on my crew cab 6.2 4x4; you should consider at least 3.73s if not 4.10s+; even though you're lighter than me you also have a smaller engine and freeway gears that are fighting you. If you switch to 3.73s (4.10s may be best) and tune your DOD setup well, you should be able to gain a lot more driveability, performance, and low-end torque while also gaining fuel mileage returns due to a better matched gearing combo. One of the guys on here has an XFE with 22s that he put 3.90s in place of the factory 3.08 gears and his fuel mileage improved quite a bit after he tuned to take advantage of the four-cylinder mode on the freeway.

With Being a 6 speed, and have 3.08 i would defienetly re-gear it and retune it. Benefits would outway headers by far

4.10s and a retune are definately in order for that truck... your truck already has a 6 speed so a converter is nto a must right away. your gears are just sad. IDK why gm ever put them in a truck, my buddies truck has them also...

definitely get a tune to take out the tq management and dial in the 6speed, then put some 4.10s, or 4.56s and you will have a completely different animal.

use this calculator to see where your rpms will be on the highway, 6l80 has a .67 OD.
