So what is involved in A cam swap? Is it necessary to take the entire top half of the motor apart? I'm not that confident in my mechanical skills to do that stuff. What would I expect to pay a shop? Is there a thread here on a walk through?

Pull each manifold bolt out, coat with anti-seize, and reinstall.
