Then I got a new optima battery, no fix. Went back to the dealer and said look something has to be done. They told me after my truck came in they had 2 other occurances, one of them they actually tested while it was happening, they said everything checked out. They told me they called GM and they had started to have the problems mainly up north. Right now there is no fix for it, gm told them it was the alternator regulators charictaristics and that they could change everything around the alternator and battery and it still wouldnt fix it. SO the dealer has to make a case, and now we have to wait for them to come up with a solution. It affects any 99-2003 truck/suv right now. They didnt know why it automatically started doing this now instead of 99, and 2000, 2001. They said that the engineers were working on it, and to check back every week or so until they have figured it out.
Wow, good info! Definately keep us posted.

Ill let you know if I find out anything else. You do need to go to the dealer even if the truck is not under warranty anymore and start a case, that way they wont be able to say just live with it. They will be forced to do something with enough complaints.

Nope, even new ones will do it and I also checked it all out. Then I went to chevrolet and demanded a fix after I had already taken it with no luck, that is when I found out about the rest. They said the day that they reported the case, GM was getting thousands of complaints up north about it. SO, we are not alone on this.

Hm, glad its not happening to mine the, I draw a LOT of power from my system and it still does just fine. Would be nice (not for GM tho) to upgrade my alternator even though its out of warranty

But the alternator could still be fine, and something is just drawing current, right??
Yes the alternator is more than likely good, but like you said something is drawing the current somewhere. Have any of you guys changed headlight bulbs out or anything like that? What size alternator do you all have?

I have the stock headlights, and the stock 105A LD alternator....to me it seems right that it is something to do with the regulator....

Sounds like a ground problem. Either lack of or not a firm contact, or something grounding out. One that sounds like it may become worse with moisture. Grounds are not easy or fun to find. Anyone have the wiring diagrams for their truck and a meter?
