Mill your heads. Stock 2007+ 4.8's are compressionless turds with a whopping 8.8:1. Thank GM for not wanting to vary any parts they use from the 5.3 for that bonehead move. That or feed it a lot of boost to make up for that. You probably will want to do this when you decide you need a cam.

Minimum 3600 rpm stall. A tight convertor drives decently ( I have daily'd a 3500 in a heavy car and as everyone else says..... it will drive near stock). I concur on 4.10 gears.

Otherwise, custom tune ( if you don't want to do it any of the above names), long tubes, etc.

I would do gears, convertor and tune first.
