Help with a converter please
Thinking about swapping to a 218/224 cam. I havent got my converter yet, so I'm still open to the size I can get. I need something to keep as much low end as possible, as I have a 4wd and use it quite a bit. I don't tow much, and usually what I do tow is light. I plan on upgrading to a HD2 shift kit before installing the converter, and am waiting on my tranny cooler to come in right now. I was planning on going with a Daaco 2500, but was also concedering getting a factory converter restalled to 26-2800. Any comments. Also is this cam maybe a little too radical? It has a 113 lsa, so I was thinking I wouldn't loose too much low end. Right now I have a 206/212 with 112 lsa, and just like everyone said I want a bigger one now I plan to upgrade to a 6.0, or hopefully a 408 if finances allow. Would this cam (the 218) work good with this too, or be too small? I have a rcsb 2000 Z-71 right now with the mods in my sig. I'm hoping to get into the 13's for the TR shoot out ny swapping cams, adding a shift kit, and converter, cutout and gutting my cats, running 26" tires instead of 32's. Do ya'll think its possible? Thanks for the help/advice. You have helped me do the right mods, and not waste so much mods on the dumb stuff. I'm trying to learn from others mistakes now.

Maybe some others will chime in here in a while, but just my 2 cents. A 2500 converter would be too small for that cam. It would work fine with the cam your currently running. I would think with that cam you would need at least a 2800, but most likely a 3000 or 3200. What gears are you going to be running? My cam is slightly smaller than the one you are looking at and my 2500 is a bit too small.
Also, I may be wrong but I don't think that you can re-stall a stock silverado converter that high. 2400-2500 is the highest it can go to my knowlege. I know you can re-stall the trailblazer converter higher though.
Also, I think that would be a good cam. I looked at it myself. with your mods current and future, you should be close to 13's, just not real sure because of it being 4wd.

I'm running 3.73's right now. I would like to step up to 4.10, or 4.56's, but don't want to do the front too, sooooo I'll probably just stay with the 3.73's. I'm running the stock converter now with my cam, and havn't had any problems yet, but was looking for about a 2500, thanks for the advice. Was hoping to stay around 25-2800 just to keep the low end.

I think a Yank TT3000 or the like from Precision Industries would work great for your application. Personally I'm going with the Yank TT2600 but I don't plan on any internal engine mods any time soon and I'm just looking to get a lil better 60ft time. I've driven a truck with a Yank TT3000 converter and a Trans Am with a Vigilante 2800 converter and both of these were very streetable.

I kind of want to keep around 26-2800 just for the fact that I'm in 4wd quite a bit. Also I wasn't planning on spending quite that much $$. I would love a Yank, or Vig, just cant quite swing it right now. Also, I have 105k miles on her now, so I'll probably be able to convince the ole lady I need a complete engine/trans rebuild soon Then I HOPE to go with a 408, and a built 4l65e trany. Then I might be able to step up to a Vig, or Yank. Right now, I'm just looking for something to match the cam I'm planning to get. Thanks though. Keep the opinions coming, I'm pretty ignorant to converters.

I just installed a 2600. Our cam specs are similar with exception of lobe seperation. It's about right. Good mix of performance and a 4x4 truck. The cam you have in mind is a bit large for a 2600 IMO. You're gonna loose your low end.

I didn't do any before/after dyno's like I wanted, but it does feel noticably stronger. I think its a great cam, I just want to step it up a little.
