I have been reading a bunch of stuff lately. I have a 4.8L v8 in my 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 ext. cab. I know that for sure, but I want to start putting performance parts on it. Everything that I have read says that my engine is an Vortec 4800 LR4. I have not been able to find any parts for an LR4 only the LS1 ect. Please help, what type of parts do I need to be looking for?

 

the 4.8 5.3 5.7 and 6.0 are all from the same engine family and all interchange. what are you wanting to do.

 

A good tune is one place to start. Like mentioned, the parts for the other ls engines will fit the 4.8L.

 

want to make it fast, and have fun. First I want to put an CAI, headers, and an exhaust. have not thought about a tune yet, don't even know where to start on that.

 

Well, you can see in my sig the combo I use and it seems to work well. K&N intake, longtube headers, exhaust of your choosing, and custom tune (mines from Wheatley www.gowheatley.com). Get some gears and a servo for the trans and a higher stall converter and it would be running pretty good. Then you could always throw a cam in it for even more power.

 

Generally, vendors call them LS1.

 

Pull that 4.8 in lieu of a 6.0 and you'll have alotta fun
