help with exhaust
I just bought a 2001 silverado 1500 5.3 4x4.
I could not wait and just recently put a new set of asm headers on and cannot decide what I should do with my exhaust.
I would like to keep my stock cats for daily driving unless there is a way to pass a smog test w/o them. so cut outs will most likely be put in.
should i run x-pipe, or a y pipe, true duels etc... i would also like to dump the exhaust some place around my rear axle.
I will be installing a pretty big cam, built heads, converter, boltons and 125 shot, so i will need pretty good flow but not overkill.
I don't want it to be too loud for daily driving ( the girls wont like it)
thanks, any input will be helpful.[/FONT]

The stock cats are fine unless you're running forced induction. I suggest either LTs to a Y pipe to a hooker aerochamber, or duals to aerochambers.
hooker aerochambers are good for quiet systems with LT's, they almost sound stock at idle, no drone, and only get loud at WOT. They flow just fine too. If you're not running cats, they'll still sound very good and mostly quiet.

If they're doing a visual inspection, it again depends on whether they're strict enough to make sure the cats are in the stock location or if you just have cats period. If they're making sure the cats are in the stock location, you'll fail automatically with LT's, this would be states like California. If they're simply checking for cats and arn't concerned with the stock location, then you can get by with gutted cats.
