You could probably go 10.5:1 and be completely fine on the compression.
On the block I wouldn't go right to the max bore of 4.25" for several reasons. One, you don't leave yourself any room at all to have the cylinders rebored/honed in the future. Two, it would only leave .15" in between cylinders to try and get a head gasket to seal. Lastly, if you go with some form of forced induction in the future you will want the thicker cylinder wall. I'd stick with a 4.125" bore and 4.25" stroke. I know there are several companies out there that make 4.25" LS style cranks. The stock style intake manifolds are gonna limit the rpm anyway no matter what so the longer stroke would be fine.
One other thing. If you plan on going turbo in the future maybe just look into building a nice iron 402 instead of a LSX 454. The turbo really isn't gonna care too much about the few extra cubic inches and the 402 will save you some bucks for future plans. Plus a 454 LSX with some decent heads would be one bad **** just NA.
It'll be a cool build no matter what.

i think it probably will stay NA atleast for a very long time. this build is going to eat all my green paper, along with all the other plans i have for my truck. and id like to have around 650 horse then have a lil n2o to play with.
and 402 or and 408 are in the back of my head, im just tryin to figure out the best bang for the buck.

How about a 427?? I've seen in GMHTP that SDPC has new "El Torro" shortblocks. They have a aluminum block L92 based 427 stroker for $5K. 4.068" bore and 4.100 stroke.
I'm really considering saving up for one of these to build NA.

SDPC is a great place to buy a short block. I would suggest talking to Don at Dez racing out of Ma. Don has built some big, reliable combos.
Just wondering, how much are you looking at spending. The only reason I ask is becuase it is always more than you think. 23K later, buying tires seems like a HUGE expense

Hell of a deal if you ask me.
