Default Help me choose a cam for my 5.3

Hey guys I posted this over on LS1 tech and didnt get much of a response so maybe someone over here can help me. Im building a 99 wrangler with a 5.3 and I need help choosing a cam. I had the heads milled .035 and the truck is going to have a full exhaust, stock intake manifold, and a k and n filter. Basically a bolt on 5.3. I want something with a little lump but keep in mind this is going in a jeep not a race car, so it has to make some good low end power too. Comp cams makes a Sh*t ton of different cams and i can seem to pick one, not to mention a few other aftermarket companies make some nice stuff too. I guess basic requirements are power under 2k rpms and no more than say 6400-6500 rpms. Gas milage is no matter and sound is a must, this is not a DD so I want to know its not stock. Thanks for the replies and wish me luck with this thing lol.

Comp Cams XR265HR, the most recommend torque cam in a 5.3. 212/218 .522/.529 114LSA. Go with a 112 LSA if you want a little lope, which will also lower the powerband a little more yet. This cam is strong on the bottom, and pulls way harder up top than stock.

With that said, you might do better with a slightly larger cam in a vehicle as light as a Wrangler. Will this be a manual or automatic? If automatic, the torque converter is a huge piece of the puzzle.

PM Pat G and tell him exactly what you are looking for out of a cam and he will spec one out for you for $25 IIRC

Thats what I just bought. A 220/220 is about the best off the shelf cam you can get for a 5.3L depends on what all you wanna do though but its a proven cam. A Thunder racing 220/220 or a Texas speed 220/220 is a good choice.

Thanks guys, yeah the truck is a 5 speed with 4.10s and only 31's so an that's plenty for a decently big cam. The texas speed 220/220 seams like a good way to go. I milled the heads .035 so compression should be about 10 to 1 now. That with the texas speed cam, a full exhaust with shorties and a k and n intake should net me close to 350 at the crank right? This Jeep was moving along quite well until I decided to open the motor lol. Can not wait until it is done. Anyone got any sounds clips of some nice 5.3 with a decent cam?
