Default help with picking catback...

I'm thinking of finally pulling the stock catback off of the GMC, and I'm trying to decide on what will fit my needs the best. I would like a system that increases HP and TQ and isn't too loud. I don't want an annoying resonance inside the cab. I do quite a bit of towing with the truck, so I don't want to give up any low-end torque. I had the Gibson catback on my '99 GMC, and I really liked it. I think a B&B system would be nice, but I'm not willing to dish out that kind of money for a damn catback! Is there anything else I should be looking at besides Gibson for what I'm wanting? What kind of real-world gains are being seen from aftermarket catbacks? Thanks in advance for the help!

I got 0.35 with my bolt on flowmaster exhaust. it was after the y-pipe. Single 3inch into a resonator(like another muffler) into a 70series (pretty restrictive muffler) and dual 2.5inch out the back. This setup you can look at on www.flowmastermufflers.com That setup had no interior resonance, and still retained all down low torque as well as gave a bit more to the top end flow. You probably will see better hp gains with a setup that flows more air. My exhaust now is different. I have 3inch after y-pipe into a 2 chamber 50 series flowmaster w/ two 2.5inch turndown exits. It is loud and you can deffinately hear it inside the cab! Sometimes that's not a cool thing though IMO - like on roadtrips.

Well, FWIW i ordered a dynomax w/ the ultraflow muffler instead of the baffled turbo muffler.

I had the ultraflo on the hawk, and i was pretty pleased.

But, i'm going for loud <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

we shall see how it sounds. Straight through muffler, 3" in/dual 2.5" out. there's basically a Y in the muffler. Dual out the back pipes.

Headers and !CATS are next after the hawk is moving again

Trevor have you resorted to trying to buy stuff for the truck just so you don't buy heads for the SS?

Just replace you muffler with single in/out 3" Magnaflow. I think you will be pleased with the performance and the sound. I had a 3in/2x2.5out magnaflow w/ a power vault venturi as my previous setup and was extremely pleased with it. BTW I still have the venturi and is for sale if you want to go that route.

Thanks for the responses guys. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Jason, are you smoking crack again? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> I'm thinking a bullet would annoy me REALLY bad! Does anyone know how well the Gibson performs in the 1/4?

excellent pic Richard! It was good to finally put a face with the crazy-*** 13-second Z71! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> I might end up taking that route.

Spintech is another really good suggestion, but I know how damn loud it was on my SS! I'll still check it out. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
