Hey Trevor, it was good to finally meet you the other night. In my opinion, you shouldn't buy a complete cat-back. The cost will be pretty high. Most cat back systems will replace all pipe from the Y-back with 3" pipe. Problem is, the Y has a 2 3/4" flange on it.

Here is what I finally did, and am happy with it: I cut the flange off, expanded the collector to sightly over 3", and used a straight piece of 3" back to a Borla muffler. This should flow better than any store bought full cat back. Put whatever kind of muffler you want on it. My Borla sounds nice, and has much less drone than the flowmaster I had on before it. I have turndowns, but you could easily turn it out before the rear tire, or over the axle and behind the rear tire like stock.

Here ia a pic of what I'm talking about.

BigTex you are a genious.... I did the same thing but witha flowmaster 40 series with no turn down or tip
it used to sound like it resonated really bad around 1500 in the cab, doesnt so much any more i guess im used to it. I wouldnt recommend it because it is really loud, (since youdont want it loud). Bigtex the only they we have a problem with now is if we have to drop the tranny, then we have to cut the y at the joint or somewhere...........(which is just an excuse to redo the y pipe to flow a little better)

I am thinking about putting a standard 3" flange on right there. That would let me break it apart whenever I want.

I had that Flowmaster 40 on mine first. It sounded great, but that drone drove me nuts on the highway.

my buddy has a 01 6.0L GMC. LOVE that truck...second best part next to surprising ricers and the occasional mustang? scaring the **** out of people on the road. exhaust? Stock catback + sawzall + 2 turndowns....not loud if you dont want it to be...but downright NASTY when you want it to be. I think it cost us like $7. Let me know if you want to hear it
