Default HELP!! truck died 4 wheelin won't start ign. fuse

It's been a fun filled night, I just got back from having my truck flat bedded home. Took the wife and my son out for ice cream, then got the idea, hmmm there is an ash pile and muddin spot nearby, let's go 4 wheelin.

well, I climbed a HUGE very steep hill, got to the top, shut the truck off and it wouldn't start back up!

getting power, keeps blowing the ignition fuse(the huge *** fuse under the hood) I swapped in the abs etc. fuses in the IGN. spot and they just fried too.

I am thinking that maybe the ASM headers I installed a week ago rubbed a starter wire when I flexed the truck 4 wheelin?

basically, the ign. fuse keeps popping and the starter is doing nothing, not even clicking! HELP! I need the truck running ASAP!

thanks!

ok been there but it was my fault all the way. what happened for me was that i had my catch can sitting on the harnes and it rubbed through three wires. bam all of a sudden the big *** fuse blew. i went through 3 fuses. everytime i attempted to put one in instantly fried. looked around for a while and found the short. thiis was over a coarse of a day. i mean all i can tell you is if you keep frying them look long and hard you prob have a short some were. in my case it was the main harnes going through the wall. then once i fixed that prob the starter would not even make a sound. there is a fuse inside the truck called crank that was blown also. and my alarm brane was fried. maybe this will help i hope it does. just hunt it took me forever but you will get it.

YES I had the exact same prob when I put my ASMs on. The power wire on the starter is turned to where it rubs on the back of the heat shield. Just loosen the header, drop the starter and see if that wire is damaged. I loosened the nut holding the wire terminal down, taped it up, and rotated it to where it was no longer touching the heat shield, and tighten the terminal back down. If you do this you might as well grind the center part of the heat shield to where it no longer touches the header. Once you crawl down there you will see what I mean. I hope this is the problem because I was blowing the fuse as soon as I turned the key, before the starter even moved. Good luck!!!

THANKS for the replies!

Here is what i found: I tried to remove the starter relay and it was melted into the under hood fuse box, when I yanked it out it pulled out the metal clip inside the fuse box that the relay slides into.

looks like the cause was the purple starter wire melted against the header!

can i buy those metal clips that are in the fuse box? (the ones the relay slides into) radio shack? what to ask for?

thanks again!

my wife turned the key while I jumped a power wire from the fuse box hole that is messed up to the battery and it started

Did you loosen and rotate that wire away from the header? You might want to trim the starter heat shield too so it doesn't touch the header.

cash you said "Once you crawl down there you will see what I mean" i dont think there will be any crawling involved. and yes them damn fuses are expensive and it sux when you keep blowing them trying to find the prob.
