Default Hey guys Im new, great page! Anyone else have a mildly built LM7 5.3?

Im just bolting on a LS6 intake, Long tube headers, Comp Cams 235/249 .573/.558 109 LSA. black bear tune, 3200 stall, on my 2000 RCSB 2wd. Anyone running a similar setup?
Planning on running n2o soon too. Figure it will run pretty stout.
Just looking for first hand opinions with similar setups. Also I dont think a 3200 stall is big enough for the cam, i was thinking a 3800 stall would better suit the setup?

Just a few suggestions. The ls6 intake has never really shown a worthwhile gain over the truck intake other than looks.
Also that is a pretty huge cam for a 5.3.
Most will say mid 220's duration is about as wild as you should go.

Ok, i was recommended to join this page from a LS1 Camaro owner who has a built car. He wasnt sure about the limitations of how large of a cam and if the intake really does work well with the 5.3 or not. Im glad i joined, Im about to tear down the motor, and want to make sure i put the money into the correct places with the correct parts, very good. As for intake what would you recommend? As for the cam maybe i should step down to a slightly smaller duration? Something along the lines of a Comp Cams *****' THUMPR Hydraulic Roller Cam 227/241 .563/.546 109 LSA, High performance street/strip, needs 9:1 CR, 2500 stall, intake, gears, and headers, rough idle. RPM range from 2300 to 6600? Or am i still pushing it with the duration???

What are your plans for the truck?

To give you an idea on powerbands, I have a TSP 228R in my 5.3 with stock 862 heads and stock truck intake manifold. My truck still makes good power up to 6800+ with a 228/228 .588 .588 cam. My 3800 stall also doesn't seem quite loose enough for my setup and I have 4.11 gears.

Mild prostreet i can race at the track on the weekend and drive to work if i feel like. I also, have pulled the axles and front hubs and sent them off to moser to run my buddies spare set of Weld Pro Star wheels. 15x10 in rear 15x4.5 runners up front. Im dropped 3/4 sus wise plan to keep the leaf sus setup. But im also finding out that the offset on the wheels might not work on my truck either. 5.5 offset with a 4.5 backspace. Mickey Thompson slicks a 28/10/15s.
This is the first time im dedicating one vehicle to prostreet quarter mile racing. So im learning as I go. I also plan on putting 100 shot or so to the motor down the road as well.

BTW ive been on the general truck forums for about 5 or 6 years. This is refreshing page motor wise, from just being a member for just the last few hours. I cant wait to talk to more of you and learn and build the correct motor for my truck, Its hard to find a hardcore source for our generation motors.

Another comment would i a 219/233 .553/.536 109 LSA High performance street, stock converter ok, best with 2000 converter & gears, choppy and thumping idle.Rpm range from 2000 to 6400. Would this even better suit what im going for?????????

If your going to make a mild prostreet truck then i would get a cam around 22x/23x 59x/59x and the LSA is up to you, it all depends on if you spray or what setup you run. Call geoff at engine power systems. He can spec ya a cam. The guys a genius

You're going to need a higher stall converter no matter what cam you go with. Match them as a set for your app.

Also a good set of heads will be in order to make the most of a cam that is pretty large.
