Really? TR told me stock heads would be fine with this cam.

Speaking of thunder racing i just found out the cam is on back order for 10 days before its ships? What the heck, i guess this gives me time to figure out if i really need to run vavle springs too.

I would forget what the recommendations on mods by the manufacturers say, their way too generalized. If you want to know some real world results on that cam then try using the search button. There's probably over a hundred guys on this site that are/have run the TR224, it's really popular. Not sure what you are worried about with the stock heads, but they flow fine; you can install that cam with springs/rods being the only mods to the heads.

As far as springs go, you can get a set of Pac 1218's from SDPC for $125 IIRC. Their good for .600 lift. I would pick up a set of hardened pushrods as well.

They do seem way to generalized, over the phone they told me that stock heads were fine with the cam. So i wasnt planning on upgrading the heads.
But now that its mentioned on the forum. I dont want to ruin the cam and heads in the process if i leave the heads stock. Thanks for the vavle spring info.

There's a difference in upgrading the heads, and upgrading the components on the heads. Upgrading the heads would be a set of AFR 225's. Your stock cam is good for around .48? lift, the TR224 racks up .581 IIRC. The stock springs will fail with that cam.

I haven't read every post on this thread in detail, but I've read quite a few. The last post is correct, OP, you're confusing upgrading heads (themselves) w/. the components on the heads. Most people are tellin u the heads will be fine. Some good pushrods should be looked at as well, & springs.

BTW, stock lift is .456/.466.

I understand stock heads will be fine. I was told diff with springs/pushrods etc.
Well an LS1 buddy of mine on the other side just found the 224/224/114 cam with pushrods and springs new. So for a quick update. Im going to cancel the cam with the 112 and go 114 ill need more top rpm with 4:56 gears anyways.
Everything happens for a reason i guess. haha. Only 100 dollars more with cam/pushrods/springs. I cant go wrong with that. So ill be set then.

If your going to upgrade the exhaust you might want to look into a split pattern cam with more lift and duration on the exhaust side,My self personally for a daily driver 4.56 is too high a gear you going from 3.42 correct? you definitely need stronger pushrods, and springs, but don't just look at the amount of lift the springs can handle look at the open and close pressure too. If I were you I'd do the gear first you will be amazed at how much more responsive ur truck is.

I just bought a new cam, broke down and bought springs with a harder duration, springs and rods.
You guys need stop making me want more power and running a more built motor. haha. Cheese and rice.

Gears are still going in. 4:56s might be too deep for the 1/4 with a high RPM motor?
