I 2nd the "Big Three." It's a good low cost fix that can help dimming lights, and voltage drops.

 

4 guage should work right??

 

4ga can handle some 125Amps. It should be fine.

 

Wrangler recommends 1/0 cable on all their alternators, but they go a little overboard IMO. I always follow their guidelines though.

Just keep in mind you are trying to eliminate voltage drop too.

I would recommend running a 4 guage from the charging stud directly to the battery, and I would run a 4 guage from one of the bolts on the accessory brackets to the battery (negative of course), as well as a 4 guage from the battery (negative) to the frame.

I used Stinger HPM Series 1/0 gauge from Cardomain. I posted something about this in another thread too, but as long as you stick with a reputable manufacturer, I would decide what size you want and buy the cheapest stuff.

I attached some pics....first one shows alt to battery wire, second and third are ground wires from the battery and engine block respectively that ground to the frame.

Just go to a stereo shop near you and they should have something. Anywhere from 1.25-1.75 a foot for 4 guage. Keep an eye out and make sure on the wire it says AWG on it and not GUAGE. AWG is American Wire Guage and it's a regulated size, if it's just spelled out guage, there is no telling what size the wire really is. Also, electrons flow on the surface of a wire, so stand count is good. Don't go to Home Depot and buy some 4guage welding wire, not good. Hooker Audio, Stinger, JL Audio, Monster Cable, are all fine. Stay away from BOSS, some Schosche and anything that appears to be stiff. JL and Monster have some of the higher strand count (and more flexible) wire out there.

 

You could also get a duramax alternator

 

Yup.. Thats what I am running... Direct bolt in 145amps

 

I know someone with a Duramax and someone with a Escalade alternator with bigger stereo/etc.. setups and they work fine. They were having the dimming lights etc... and they were a fix. I wanna say one paid $125 and one paid $150 from alternator place. Let me know if you want me to find the source!
