Default Home built raptor tranny

OK-I haven't said much about it 'cause I wanted to wait and see how it worked out first. One week ago today I pulled the tranny from my truck and stripped it down to the bare case. I rebuilt it using a kit from transmissioncenter.net and put in one of their 3000 stalls (more on that in a minute) I bought all the internals that they use to make their "Raptor" which is supposed to take 700 horses and keep going. I did the work myself except for putting in the seals-paid a local tranny man to do that-and at 8am this morning I drove it out of the shop. So far it seems great-much better than it was stock.

About the converter. Transmission center lets on like they manufacture their own but it was drop shipped from a place in IL named Midwest Converters (www.raceconverters.com) This thing has a 12 inch lockup clutch but a 9 inch back half so it can tow like stock but they are able to make it stall to your specs. I ordered a 3000 and although I haven't just hammered the dog out of it yet, I can get 2700-2800 torquing on it in the driveway. WAY better than stock. I think the dreaded TQ MGT is kicking in a little now-it levels off at the 2-3 and then comes back to life. As soon as this laptop battery gets charged I am gonna go autotap it to see and then I am going to go find my friend who has a 93 Lightning. The last time we lined up he had a fender on me until 110mph when he hit overdrive and then I blew past him. We will see if I can spank him today. I'll post the results this evening.

How much was the kit? How much was the converter? How hard was it to do the trans? Was it the first time you ever rebuild a tranny?

Congrats on the tranny! I just broke in my newly built tranny a week ago, and got a Yank 3000 stall. I love it so far! However I am noticing the same thing when shifting. There is a soft spot. I guess this is TQM.

Those convertors are sposed to be great! The guy that makes them was offering a GP a long time ago on LS1.com for cheap. They were testing them out I think. All I heard was GOOD news about them. I think I will get all my parts like you did, and have someone build it for me, maybe get a core to build

Max-I paid $769 for the kit and $320 for the TC it cost me $100 to get the seals put in so time you figure fluid and a bottle of lube gard I have a little over $1200 in it. It really wasn't hard at all-this is the 5th tranny I have worked on and out of the other 4 one failed in a couple months, one didn't work and I had to sell the truck, one I never put in the car so I don't know if it worked or not, and the T-400 in my Bruick is still going strong. Bottom line is I am very proud of myself on this one. When I get time I am gonna pull the 700 out of my LT1 truck and go through it.

I'm Lowr-yep it is TQ MGT. I autotapped one run today and it pulled the timing down to -.5 at the 1-2 and down to 2 on the 2-3 shift. LS1 edit is my next expenditure for sure.

Sam-the converter is awesome so far-I even let my wife drive it (given she is a gear head too) but she was impressed with the drivability.

I found my buddy that I was looking for and guess what? We ran 2 times and he put a half truck on me up to 100-105mph then I blew past him like always. I am not making excuses because he has traction probs too, but if I could hook it I think I can take him. His best is 7.99 in the 1/8th.

I called the trans center, and they said no way you bought that converter for them for 340.00. They wanted 580.00 for the converter. Could you please give me a part # for you converter. Also, what a bunch of country ******. They were more confused about thier products and prices than I was. I will gladly pay more for a converter to know exactly what I am getting and get better service.

Hey work in progress-it was $320 not $340! I don't know how to post pics yet but I took a pic of my invoice and posted it on my webpage that I just started last week, if you want to look at it www.geocities.com/theautoman/mytruckisfast The only thing I can figure is when I first ordered after I got off the phone I had a bad feeling about which converter they were gonna send. So I called back and sure enough they had me down for the wrong one. Maybe they changed the type of converter but charged me for the lesser one. Either way, I am not complaining-the converter works awesome.

They charged you for the the 5x and you got the 5xxx. The 5x only works with the 700 r4. The converter you have is listed at 615.00. I ordered the same converter you have through someone else and paid a lot less for it. Still didn't get as good of a deal as you. I am looking forward to getting mine. Just goes to show you the people over there don't have it on the ball. They charged you for the wrong converter and ran me off with thier dumbass answers. One guy there said that I had to run a different converter because I had an LS1 and not the 5.3 anymore. Phuckin Moron's.

I called Midwest today and played dumb and acted like I was interested in buying a converter. The guy was very helpful and knowledgable. He told me that it has a 2.5 STR and has carbon fiber lockup clutches. He said they build about 200 converters per day! I am going to the track tomorrow if it doesn't get rained out-this will be the first race of the season here.
