I made the mold out of MDF primarly. I bought a 3/4" sheet. I cut rectangles and stacked them up each one being smaller than the next to get the basic shape. the I used an angle grinder to smooth down the step like shape. Next I put on a layer of fiberglass to seal in the wood. Next I put bondo on the fiberglass to make the shape I ended up using. Then I put another coat of fiberglass on top of that. I hope that helps a little bit.

if you're wanting to glass the intake tube, the header wrap is fiberglass, just spread resin over it and let it dry.
about a month or so ago when I installed my longtubes I went ahead and did the header wrap on my K&N 77 series. lowered the IAT's by around 20-25* all around. I also built a different airbox out of stainless at work. The airbox helps keep out the hot engine air pretty good, I'm actually going out there right now finally to wrap the edges of the stainless with the hose that goes around the K&N base.
anyways, nice work, and you'll learn a lot about using glass the more you use it. I tend to stick with using fleece for glassing stuff since it holds more resin and is much smoother/harder. the fleece i use you can pick up at walmart in the quilting section, I just bought a whole roll for 12 bux and after doing several sub boxes I haven't run out. IMO i'd give the fleece a try while doing anything else in the engine bay since it is thicker and you dont have to sand as much.
