Default Hot Cam

I know there has been thousands of threads on cams, and yes I have looked at the sticky cam tread but I've never herd of anyone putting an ls1 hot cam in a 5.3L. Does anyone know how it performs as a daily driver. I want something that lopes and is a good daily driver, mostly highway miles. What gains would this produce over my stock 99 cam (also see mods in my sig.). Is there a lot of tuning involved with this because I've heard this cam is a tuning nightmare, but others say its a great cheap cam with great gains and little tuning needed. Will I have to drill out my TB idle hole? I plan on having an 02 pcm and 02 injectors installed at the same time as the cam. sorry for the same lame old cam questions as everyone else but this iseems to be a nice budget cam. any info will help. anyone have a sound clip of one in a 4.8L or 5.3L ? Thanks

There are much more powerful cams out there with great drivability and better suited for a 5.3 truck.

I'm kinda in the same dilema as you. By looking at all these threads, The most recomended cam is the tr224/224, I dont know what ppl are using them for(street or strip) but it is a pretty big cam if you are running mostly street. But I think that for what I will use the cam for, mostly street, a 216/224 seems to be my best bet. The hot cam you are talking about, i believe is a 219/228. I'm not super familiar with how the durations work, and how they affect stuff but I think that the larger the intake duration the more low end and the higher the exhaust duration the more high end. The cam I was looking at is rated for 1500-6000 rpm, the hot cam is probably like 3000-6500, so you would need to go with a 3000 or 3500 stall, while I could go with a 2800 which is more streetable. just my .02 Im sure there are more experienced guys on here that will correct me if I'm wrong.
