Hotchkis leaf springs help needed please!
Hey does anyone have any pictures of their trucks underside, preferrably the area where the drivers side dual line brake lines are? I installed my Edelbrock shocks, and front and rear Hotchkis springs and this morning I noticed that a brake line looped down under the truck.
Heres a link to the Hotchkis leaf spring install pdf file. https://www.hotchkis.net/pdf_files/2403.PDF
It shows a pic on page 2 of 6 that looks like there is a bracket holding the lines together but I am not sure.
On page 3 of 6 there is another pic showing a guy installing what looks like a bump stop and spacer between the tranny. I put in the spacer but had an extra bump stop from the leaf spring install kit. The install text says nothing about putting in a bump stop though. Does anyone know what I should do with this extra bump stop I have?
I cant find my repair manual (that I just bought!) so I am not sure wether to just zip time them back together or if something serious is wrong.
If anyone knows anyone or a website that has pictures of these lines please let me know.
I love the new setup! Its absolutely ridiculous how well it handles. Its a little bumpy but no big deal and if I do hit a bump the truck immedidately recovers stability, thanks to the shocks!
I will post before and after pics of my setup as soon as I get em! I highly recommend the Hotchkis and Edelbrock setup to ANYONE interested in truly increasing thier trucks handling performance!
Sorry for all the questions but I know this forum is the place to bring em!
thanks,

Re: Hotchkis leaf springs help needed please!
First off I want to say congrats on the new suspension.
For the brake line bracket... Mine has the one bracket where the two line come together as one then another that I just had to bend out of the way a little bit when I installed my swaybar. I had a lot of slack in one of my e-brake cables too. I just moved mine to where the slack went up instead of down past the frame where I could see it.
The trans spacer and carrier bering bracket are for the ext. cab install (notice the 2403 instructions at the top and bottom ) You dont have to worry about them for the reg cabs. So if you got everything torqued down good I think you are in the clear.
btw... did you get the rear ubolts to the recomended 200ftlbs?

Re: Hotchkis leaf springs help needed please!
So I guess all is well with my truck. Actually right after i posted this message I checked a guys GMC across from my house it he had the same e brake/brake lines dipping under the truck. After seeing that I basically figured everything was cool.
The install was a real bitch! It took my friend and I forever! Like 12 hours! Since I am an ext. cab I had to buy a dremel to drill out the old carrier plate and put in the new bracket, which required that I also drill holes in the new bracket.
Anyway the rear leafs were the hardest and the front coils went in pretty easy. This is the first Chevy/GMC suspension I have worked on so it was definitely a cool learning experience. In the past I have always worked on imports.
Now I want to get some more horsepower to match my "superior handling"
The only problem with my trucks ride now are the poor gripping General Ameritrac factory tires. I am tempted to sell em to get cash for new lower profile high performance tires. Since my General's only have 1300 miles on em I bet I could sell em. Do you know how much tires like these usually go for?
Do you know of any good tire shops online, or mail order? Any good high perf tire recommendations? It never rains in California so I really dont need much of an all terrain/season tire. Do you know how low of a sidewall and how big a diameter I can go without messing to much with the speedometer? I was thinking of 275+/65-60/17 inch tires. Any ideas or tips would be very helpful.
thanks,
Glenn

Re: Hotchkis leaf springs help needed please!
My bad. For some reason I thought you had a reg cab. No biggie on the torque specs. I was just wondering if you got to 200 or not. When I put mine on, once I got to 190 I scared the bolt were going to break on me.
Yea, the weight transfer really sucks right now but once your springs break in a little it will get some better (but not a whole lot). I could turn my nittos over really easy when I first put my springs on. Are you thinking of selling you stock rim/tire combo or just the tires? I got 550 for my stock Al wheels and 235 Goodyears from a friend. TireRack(site sponsor) has good deals on rims/tires. You can also check out discounttiredirect.com and afftw.com(where I got mine from).

Re: Hotchkis leaf springs help needed please!
i have noticed in some stock trucks the break line hanging down. not just on the lowered trucks. on mine i just ziptied the two lines together so the bottom one does not hang down and have not had any problems.

congrats on the install!!!! make sure you get the alignment done pretty soon. it will help out a lot on steering.
yeah you definitely need better tires. i have the bfg 275/65/16 and there pretty good. although my next tires are going to be perelli's 275/60/16. the parelli's look pretty bad *** also and are supposed to have really good traction. supposedly they last longer than the bfg's.
check out the sig. and see setup with the bfg's and 2/4 drop....
