Yokohama makes a 285/70-16, just 10mm shy of that 295. have not heard much about them though.

Yokohama AVS tires are very noisy and VERY over priced. I have them. They are a great tire for show and wet weather, but suck at the track. I'd buy them again for a truck that I would not drive much, but my next set will be a set of Nitto 404's.

Be careful to check tread width vs section with. The GTII in the size you want is 11.8" section with only 9.2" of tread width. Where by comparison, my Yoko AVS 285/50/18's have a section of 11.5" with a tread of 9.6" of course the side wall is shorter also. But I have a wider tread pattern on a narrower section width.

the gt2's have a wider tread width than most other 16's but i will be running them on a skinnier than recomended rim. not really sure where that will put me.
i ran 275/60's on stock rims and they were fine.
i want a tire just a little shorter than what i have now, the only other tire i see that isn't alot shorter is the perilli 285/65. they are close to 150ea and the gt2's are something like $102 each.
i think i will try the gt2's and if they suck i will just have some fun with them and make some smoke shows. $400 for a complete set isn't a huge gamble.

My best-friend just put a set of 285/60/16 GT2s on his stock rims. They do bulge off the rim a little. He claims they're better than any tire he's ran before on his truck. I personally just put a set of 255/65/16 Kumho Ecsta STXs on my truck. Mainly because they only cost $84 each and had high reviews on Tire Rack. So far the Kumhos have been great, no loss of traction and great in the rain.

The GT II's are cheap not only in price but in workmanship. Read the reviews, they've got issues. With the envelope you are pushing, I don't understand why you are considering skimping on something so important. We'd all like to see you stick around for a while.
If you're going to spend $400 anyway, why not spend $600 and do it right.
