Default How to distinguish a 4.8L from a 5.3L?????

Okay, im needing some help here, if I have a 5.3L and a 4.8L Vortec engine, how would I tell the difference between the two? Part number or wat? On the back of the engine it says 4.8/5.3L so wats the best way? Both have exactly the same crap on them, same heads etc. Can both be bored to 5.7?

Thanks
Mike

Okay well one is a 99 and Ive pulled the heads on it, they are flat, in 99 the 5.3s werent flat correct? so its obviously a 5.3L. I have another which is an 02, is there a possibility of flat pistons in that yr? I could check the crank in it bu tnot sure what to look for, if anyone can let me know if 02s came flat tops thatd be nice.

in 99 and 02, there where no H.O.'s, so if its flat tops, its a 4.8 and if its dished its, 5.3. I don't believe you would see a flat top 5.3 till at least 05 and it would be an aluminum block too.

Thanks for the info, so an 02 with 862s would be a 4.8?
