Default How do you disconnect the odmeter?

Has anyone tried this yet? I got this off a trailblazer site. can we do this on our trucks?
""Secret Modification
I can't say that I would do this or look for it, but I have discovered a way to disconnect the guages. From the Odometer to the gas guage, if you pull fuse #24 from under the hood, and you'll be stuck in time so to speak.""

That would be cool "FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY" LOL

I am not sure about unhooking the odometer. But I purchased a set of Escalade gauges for $250 which gave me the tranny temp gauge. Sending unit is already in the tranny and works as soon as you plug it in. To be legal you have to put the sticker on the back of the gauges notating what mileage you modified it. As it is I have now frozen my truck at 29525 miles. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> Plus the Denali Gauges are righteous and the tranny temp gauge is a real help.

on the new trucks(99-present)
pulling a fuse might stop the odometer in the dash
but theres so many sensors in these now that the milage wil keep on counting in the body computer
so if you have warranty isues they WILL now

we had a custer short out his cluster and wanted it fixed sid he only had 9000 computer said about 45000 this was not coverred

From what I understand, the PCM only sends pulses to the dash which gives you the MPH and increments mileage accordingly. Nothing held in the PCM. That is what I derived from talking to the dealer. As you now when the dash is replaced it does not update its mileage from the PCM which leads me to believe it is not stored anywhere else. One thing you do have to watch out for is the run time of XXX hours. I do not know where that is stored.

One other thing about the Escalade gauges, does the 4L60E have the sender already in it or are we talking about the Allison transmission applications only?

Thanks

I have a 1500 Sierra with the 4L60E in it. As far as I know all of the truck trannies have the sending units in them. Just plug the gauges in and they are set.

Yes, the PCM does send pulses to the dash but in fact you can see descrepancies in dash to PCM milage. Just check with anyone who works for GMAC lease department to see which numbers they go by.

The "actual milage" is in fact recorded in the PCM. A GM ASA programmer or TechII is required to access and alter this information (yes, it can be reflashed as easily as they can do a TSB PCM update.)

Is the techII an OTC product? Expensive I am sure.

A Tech 2 is the hand held scanner GM uses. I bought mine though GM for a little over $2200, however I work at a dealership. I am not sure if GM will sell them to the public. I also recently had to purchase a bigger memory card for it,$500.
