How do you get the crank bolt loose....and tight again if.....

How do you get the crank bolt loose....and tight again if.....
you have an Automatic transmission ???......I was just thinking about this and realized I've always put a car in 4th gear to do this, with an auto you can't do that
is it pretty easy to just drop the starter and jam a screwdriver in ???

You can drop the starter and jam a screwdriver in there kinda easy. You can also take the little inspection cover off the bellhousing and jam something up in there. I've used both those techniques with success in the past. You can also make a tool up real quick like this or buy one from the guy making them in that thread.

BTW, if you're taking the starter down make sure to unhook the battery first. Lot of exposed metal and hot terminals in that vicinity.

You can also get a big break over bar, get it tight up against the frame and bump the starter. That's the easy way!
To get it back on, just beat the snot out of it with the biggest impact gun you can find.

Isn't the stock crank bolt a torque-to-yield piece? If so, have to get a new one for the re-isntall. As said above, biggest impact gun you can find and/or a breaker bar and have at it.
BTW, I just received one of the crank tools (and puller attachment) linked above. Haven't used it yet so can't comment on effectiveness, but sure looks like it will get the job done.

We put a breaker bar in the middle of the crank pulley and wedged it against the passenger side of the motor. I then put a breaker bar on the bolt and it wasnt too tough. We used an air hammer to get the pulley back on. Those longer crank bolts didnt help for **** in our case. Maybe Im just too dumb to figure out how you guys did it. We had to use a 3 arm pulley puller to get the pulley off though.
