How to know the Year of an LQ4 engine ???

Arrow How to know the Year of an LQ4 engine ???

I bought one but now I'm not sure that the guy told me the truth... There is any way to know the year of an LQ4 engine ??? what part numbers should I check ??

Thanks guys

P.S. I'm also looking to get a set of Rod/Pistons from a '05+ LQ9/LS2 and the crank too...

Look on the pass side of the block-on the front of the engine-in front of the cylinder head. There'll be a letter and 3 numbers. Post it up and I'll decode it for you.

LOL, Thats the casting # of the heads but they all use the same from '01+ ... It's 317, maybe you know something I don't...

If you have EGR you'll need to remove it to be able to see the pad on the block with the casting #s. But I dont think that necessarily guarantees you the model year of the engine. I believe GM had at times or maybe all the time had surplus of engine blocks. After removing the EGR I found my block was cast in May 2001, yet it's an 02 engine, and unless I'm mistaken, production for the following MY doesn't begin until september, october...

You're looking in the wrong place. It's in front of the deck surface.

It's on the block or on the head ??? It's that the bunch on numbers that are like punched ??? or those have something to do with the VIN ???

It's on the block. Right in front of the passenger side head. It will say something like F301.
