Are the people changing their oil at 2000 even bothering to look at the test data on that webpage. I've been saying it for years from experience in other areas of the automotive world but noone ever listens. Mobil 1 has a breakin period, it runs better after the breakin than when it first comes out of the bottle. Look over that webpage to see what i'm talking about, look at the metals that were showing up in the 1st 3k miles as opposed to the 2nd 3000 or the last 3000 miles.

LOW2000, that's an interesting point. I didn't re-read the article, but I do remember it started leveling off after so long and it help very well with filter changes and top offs. I think I'm gonna try doing 15k intervals with filter changes every 5k.

AMSOIL says their oil is good to 7500 miles and they're the only one i've seen that says they are good to over 3k, i typically run my truck with 15/50 M1 and go 3k-4k and i put M1 10/30 in the Z28 and have almost 1500 on it and it's clean as hell. the 15/50 that went into the truck when the new setup was done only has about 70-100 miles on it and it's already dirty as 3k mile dinosaur oil would be. gotta get that taken care of actually.
Mobil 1,quite a few years ago,on the bottles, used to say good for 15k . I called Mobil and asked a rep why it doesn't say that anymore and he said that the oil is better than it used to be but they did not want to be in disageement with GM,Ford etc. mileage change recommendations.
I read a story in Popular Science way back in'77 about Synthetics that was mainly about M1 . A Ford exec ran it for 100k in a Lincoln: they added oil as needed, changed filters once in a while(don't remember how often) and checked it using a spectrographic analysis and it always was good. After the 100k they tore it down..said everything was clean and the parts were still spec'ed(mic'ed) like new.
I used in a 305 Chevy van for 125k and a Civic(still have)for 202k and my new 4.8 . Van ran strong(for a 305)and the 1.5L Civic still seems to run like new. I change the oil anywhere from 3k to 6k but don't really know how long is optimum. It supposedly buffers the metal from any dirt that may be in it (color) better than reg. oils. Dan S. Cibolo , Tx.
