Default how to make power with a LQ4 6.0 down low?

hey guys i have a stock 6.0 LQ4 in my jeep with hooker headers, 2.5" exhaust, and a custom tune by howell performance. i use my jeep to rock crawl, trail rig and some road time here in michigan. i would like to bump up some good HP without breaking the bank. id like to do a head and cam swap but dont know what to choose because i am looking for the power to come on at a fairly low RPM when rock crawling but still have some get up and go when on the trails and road. i was thinking on doing a 243 head swap and a 04 ZO6 cam but that seems like the power will hit to high in the RPM range? any info would be great! thanks kyle!

You might do a very small cam, like a 206/212, but keep the stock converter. Offroading with a loose one SUCKS. Best bet is a positive displace blower like the tvs1900, but that is kind of expensive.

212/218 sense its a 6.0 and mill the heads down to get alot of cr out of it

Big split duration cam, smaller primary headers, is the best way to go about it. Hell maybe use a intake with diff ports then then heads have. I know big block chevys you can rectangle port intake on oval heads, it makes some tq. Not sure if you can run mixed matched ports on Lsx set ups.

More low-end is tough it seems without a blower. More compression is likely a good starting point.

I too would like to know the answer to this question. I'm getting 4.88's and a tune today. Next step is to start on the engine. I'm thinking long tubes, milling the heads for higher cr, having a little head work done, and a 212/218 cam. I'm not expecting a torque monster, but my 07' Classic CCRB 2500hd needs a little more get em up and go.

IMO I think long tubes on 2500's are pointless. They already come with 3" duals from the factory, that's plenty of flow on a stock 6L. Long tubes will just kill low end even more...

if this is on the cheap side . .

pull the stock 317 heads and mill them 35
use a thin MLS head gasket
upgrade to the 4 bolt new style intake and get a LS3 90mm TB and the TB adapter

get a small cam like the Vinci trucker, or the 212/218 on a low lift.

How much do you think it will cost to shave my heads 35? With this tb being bigger will that be cable operated? Will that screw with my comp not using DBW?

shaving heads - 30-55

TB - you can slap a DBC or DBW TB on there . . . if it's the cable operated already, then it's less cost for the whole swap.

Computer works with either, but if you're going from DBC to DBW . . . you'll need a few more parts . . . then it's no longer a cheap swap
