Default How much cooling capacity with the 34"/OEM Efans over LS1 fans?

These LS1 fans simply aren't getting the job done. By the time I pulled up to the staging lanes tonight my ECT was sitting at 214. Waiting in a 50 car line just isn't conducive to low temps. Can I expect the OEM Efans and 35" radiator to be able to keep this thing significantly cooler? Should I look into a 160 t-stat?

have you tried keeping the fans on high? I put in a manual switch just for this reason.

The only way to currently get mine on high is to turn the A/C on. I dont have any switch wired in. But I'm not convinced it will be enough to bring the temps down, I need to keep the ECTs in the 190s to make sure I don't get any spark retard during the run. To be honest, I don't want to deal with a manual switch, I simply want the PCM to take care of it. Unfortunately, I don't think there are provisions in EFI live for this to be done. I think the only way GM ever set up the electric fans were for them to come on high while the A/C is turned on, even with the 2 pin setup. Looks like I may indeed need a manual switch.

with my 34" rad unless i am stopped at a light I never even have to turn my fans on. Right now they are totally manual so I just watch the temp.

The high speed on the fans makes a huge difference. I have my 2000 rigged up with the two pins and I can indeed make them come on low at one temp, and high on another temp, without turning the AC on. When I upgraded from LS1 fans to 05 fans, it helped a lot. They are almost twice as big as the LS1 fans.

Making them come on high is a simple temperature setting. Since I didnt always want them to come on at a relatively low temp I put in a switch. One side to ground, one side taped to the wire and bam, manual switch.

How did you make them come on high at a certain temp in the tuning?

Yes I have the beta version (which has been in beta for over a year??). If you have a pre-2003, they can send you a patched version that will enable the second pin.
