I am going to start shopping around for a place to do an exhaust setup on my truck. I think I really want to go with Hooker mufflers since they give the rawest tone that I've heard so far... but how much should an average price be for the mufflers, 2.5" stainless piping in a true-dual form the stock cats back, then dumped both before the axle?

It really depends on the shop, I'd say estimate anywhere from around $200 to $250 for all of it. Thats basing it off of the quotes I've gotten in the past for true duals, and that is without an X pipe which will be around $80 most likely. Are you set on duals though? I'd just cut the stock muffler off yourself, get somebody to weld a Hooker 3" in/out in it's place and turn it down out of the muffler. You can get the muffler for $60 and the labor/turn down should be around $50. Let's see $300 Vs. $110, I'll take my setup for basically the same gains..

I'd say that would be a good way to go if you want a quick and painless muffler swap with a good, managable sound. Aerochambers really shine when LT's are added and cats removed.
EDIT: on gains i'd say maybe 10hp, just going by usual catback hp gains.

a muffler of any kind will not effect emissions. cats affect emissions.
That said i'd go with a dynomax bullet muffler. stright-through design but i'm surprised how well it cuts down drone. Very clean sound too, very little rasp especially with cats.
I'm doing a true dual with an X pipe, two 2.5" dynomax bullets to a side exit before the rear tire. A somewhat cheaper route would be dumps before the rear axle.
If you still have the stock piping and arn't too concerned about looks, you could put a bullet in place of the stock muffler and have that be it.

I just bought a 3" bullet and a 3" turndown for $60. All I need is to have it welded on at a shop, probably looking at around $40. $100 total is not bad, that's cheaper than the Flowmaster and turn down I had.
