How My Little 5.3 Performs
#41
Wow - you guys must all be in high school to spout this crap like you are.
Where are you guys getting your readings for this top speed? The speedo goes to 100, so you have to have scanner hooked up and you have to be watching the live data from the scanner to get an accurate speed.
Anyone ever read car and driver mag? WTF part of drag limited do you not understand? Every car or truck has a top speed that it can reach in stock form due to the amount of drag. The full size late model truck front end is the same, and the 5.3 liter engine in stock form is DRAG LIMITED to 120 mph. That means no matter how much HP your engine is producing, the amount of FUEL it needs to overcome the drag at 120 MPH can NOT be provided by the stock fuel system. Unless your running meth or NOx, no 138 MPH.
So keep your bullchit at school, cuz unless your running aftermarket fuel injectors and pumps, NONE of you are hitting 138 MPH in your trucks. It can't be done.
And arreguy - that's the biggest BS ever - 128 MPH in a stock 4.8l - LMAO.
Anyone in upstate ny who wants to prove me wrong - come to Rochester and take me for a spin and I'll give you $100 for taking me to 138 MPH with a stock 5.3l fuel system.

I agree that 138 in a brick, much less a lifted big mudd tired brick is hard to imagine. However I can't call the man a liar cause I don't know for a fact that it can not be done. I have no idea how fast I'm going at 5200 rpm in 3rd with 3.73's and 32" tires, but when I figured it on one of the gear calculator links it was in the 120's. I have had a few sports cars that would do 145-150 and thats too damn fast for a truck IMO. Not to mention the amount of HP it would get to take a truck that fast. I did have one car that was governed to 130, and my truck is a lot quicker, and has a lot more power, but I don't think its going 130. Just my .02.

I think its pretty believeable........If you had Dale Earnhardt Jrs motor in there, and Tony Stewart pushing you from behind. Like I said I can't prove him wrong, but I'm plain stupid, and you couldn't get me to go that fast in a lifted truck. I went 120 something in my 98 with 35's and it was just plain scary. There is a HUGE difference in 120 and 130 in a truck.

And I'm not saying a modded truck wont hit 138, I'm saying that ANY 5.3 without a high cap fuel pump and injectors isn't going over 120.

There you go.
1. A 5.3/4.8 with stock fuel system will go past 120 with some kind of tuning.
2. I don't belive you made 405rwhp with your mods and "a little boast". Define little.
