Is there a thicker HG I can use than the stock MLS to get the compression down that will be just as quality and reliable as the stock gasket?

Also, just to confirm, you are running unported 862's, correct? I wonder how much better the 317s flow?

eventually what i am going to do is upgrade the 862s to the 2" intake valves, and slap them on a 6.0l(if i can get away with just a hone job) and run a mild cam if not the stock one, and some dished pistons

Mine are not ported, correct. I have ran my Hoe against my truck and it is pretty much even. With the 3.42 gear I spend most of my driving time at under 2000rpm and it is happy doing it. It will accelerate going up hill with the converter locked in overdrive at 1100rpm. I can get this on video. It oddly enough feels like a big block. I couldn't be happier with the results. Some long tubes and a Corsa touring would be nice. Right now the airbox and exhaust are all stock. I still need to get out in the snow and get an idle clip. It actually idles like it's stock at 650rpm. Very little lope due to the compression. Baker Engineering (LS1Tech sponsor) did all of the machine work on the heads. Before I pull them to port them I want to dyno it and run it at the track.

I'm actually kind of at a disadvantage with the LQ9. I want to do the stage 2.5 5.3 heads, but my compression would be thru the roof with the 59cc chambers.

How is the top end on the 6.0 with those unported 5.3L heads?

i did this with the patriot stage 2 heads on my lq9, the cr was like 11:5:1 put down 402 rwhp and a low 352 tq. but i am sure the vic jr. robbed alot of low end tq. was a nice setup foresure just wasnt enough for me!! by the way i used stock gaskets. i wouldnt mill the heads though.

cam was a 224/224/.563/.563/112

Zippy, I know what you are talking about going up hills in OD acceleration. Back when I have my 30" tires, 3.42s and stock LQ9 the biggest difference I noticed over the 4.8 was how the 6.0 could accelerate up hills in OD easily. But now with 31.5" tires, the ratio is more like 3.30 and the pedal is a lot more mushy and it lugs up hills.

Hmm, idles like stock, has lots of low end tq, on milled heads no crazy ported, and all through the stock catback and intake. Sign me up. I will be putting the LQ4 out of my HD in my wife's Yukon and using the heads off her 5.3 is very interesting. That is if I can't sell her on the idea of a Maggie.
