Default HPPIII and Pinging Help

I've got a 01 5.3 Sierra and I am getting some bad pinging at wot with the power programming @ 93 octane. I'm running Exxon and Mobil premium. I also have a P&P throttle body from MMS, 160 degree t-stat, and an ultimate PD air intake(similar to K&N but without an open air filter) Today I programmed back to stock and made a few runs(no pinging), programmed the power programming for 93 octane and got pinging. Programmed it wit power programming and 87 octane and no pinging. So I left it there. I got some ngk tr6 plugs which are a colder plug from the Tr55's and I'm going to put them in tomorrow to see if this makes a difference. Does anyone else have a clue of what might be going on?? I really don't want to send my programmer back to Hypertech. Thanks for any help.

Do you have reformulated gas in your area? Have you tried some octane booster?

How long have you ran it like that? It usually takes mine about a tank to adjust to the 93 programming.

The heat range of the plug will NOT effect pinging. Try some cheap octane booster and see if it helps your problem...the 02' trucks seem to put down a good 2-3 degrees more than previous years at WOT.

Fast4.8
How does one know/find out if reformulated gas is in my area(baton rouge, La)? I did run some octane boost it did decrease the pinging but it didn't go away.

I've been running it like that for awhile. It only does it at wot so i didn't go wot. I'm a little scared about testing settings with the programmer b/c a programmer killed the computer on a 99 Gmc sierra that I was trading up on.

I wanted to change the plugs anyway and Paul at thunder racing said that they might help. Like I said above the booster did decrease the pinging but it didn't go away.
Thanks for the ideas and please keep them coming. The truck is running great with the power programming at 87 instead of 93. I'm going to try the 93 rfg setting tomorrow to see if that resolves the problem.
