Default HT383 swap complete.

I got my crate on Friday. Got the shortblock mounted on the engine stand. Saturday was spent building the engine from installing the cam shaft on up. Installation took place Sunday. It took me a total of 28 hours to do working alone. It fired on the first try and does not set codes. The tune for that first fire-up was a calculated guestimation and landed me at with LTrim values no greater than -4.7 (rich) across the RPM and MAP ranges I have so far been in.

The HT383 (part #12499106) is a 4.005" bore and 3.8" stroke in a cast-iron 4-bolt mains late-model production Gen-I block clearanced for stroke. It has high-silica specific pistons, specific powdered metal rods and a forged 4340 steel crank. Pistons are dished with valve pockets.

Cam: Crower 00401LM. Intake/Exhaust specs are 269'/278' at 0.474" and 0.498" lift on a 114' LSA.
http://www.crower.com/misc/cam_spec/...rt_num=00401LM

Head Gaskets: Cometic MLS Vortec-specific with valve pockets. 4.080" bore, 0.040" thick. They are coated in Permatex Copper-Coat both sides.

Cylinder Heads: unmodified Aluminum Edelbrock E-Tec 200's with pushrod guideplates. These are held by ARP 12-pt undercut Pro-series studs.

Rockers: Crane Cams 1.6:1 Gold Series, non self-aligning, narrow-body.

Pushrods: 7.150" Comp Cams hardened

Intake Manifold: GM Marine cast iron/aluminum L31 MPFI. Modified for street use.

Fuel injectors: Accell 36 lbs/hr. running at 4 bar fuel pressure.

Out of all that the only changes are the cam (instead of stock) and the shortblock (also replacing stock). I'm taking it real easy and working on the tuning. It has not yet seen any boost or even RPM greater than 3000.

Here's a clip of startup and idle. Tuning this was tricky - it actually idles smoothly at 550RPM after a few whacks at tuning it.

RIP Stock Vortec L31...

Sweet. Is the Whipple going on that?

EDIT: Never mind, the video finally loaded, and my question was answered.

Great swap man...sounds really good. You'll love the 383. Sounds better than mine does for sure. My pistons make a heck of a lot of noise due to the old piston slap.

Looking like fun. Extra cubes are nice for the weight.

It came from Summit Racing: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

The only other thing out-of-pocket was the head gaskets @ about $75 each. Everything else I had in-stock or taken from the 350.
