What he is saying is not shimming them will be less likely to brake due to coil bind. Coil bind it one of the major contributors to spring breakage, One should still check valve spring geometry for any head/spring/rocker/cam combo thou...

If 10k is the rule for spring I should be in a bind by now think I have around 24k on mine. Might be good to have one or two checked tho to think about it.

heads are bone stock lq4 heads
and i dont think i ever got on it before it was warm? maybe i did.
and the springs are Precision Race Component Spring Kit not patriot luke.
the springs that broke were the intake spring in #7 and #8

This is slightly off topic but since someone asked... I ran my Patriots for about 2 years and at least 30k miles until I changed them a couple of weeks ago. To my surprise, there was not a single broken spring. This is why double springs are the way to go. I broke 2 918s with maybe 15k a while back and it gouged a head and punched a hole in a piston.

i have never head of a problem with my ,and glad i have a back up spring in there i cant afford to tear anything up.

So if yellow LS6 springs are good for 100K miles v. only 10K for duals, what's the recommended interval for other popular springs like PAC 1218 / PAC 1518 / Comp 918?
