Default i feel like ive read every cam thread. Help!

Im looking for a noticibly lopey idle. Something that sounds built, but i still would like to maintain daily drivability. Nothing crazy just a good thump to it. What do you guys have in mind for me? Im new to the V8 world so i figured you guys could help.

Thanks in advance, also if ya have links or videos of the ones ya like post em up. Im looking for ideas.

I should add, I have a bone stock 5.3

If you plan to keep the stock converter, you will want to keep the duration on the low side 212ish and a 114 LSA. If your going to get a bigger converter then this will open more doors as far as cam, chop go.

I'm in the same situation. I went with the Comp cams 212/218 low lift. Have not heard or read a bad thing about t for my application.

You need to decide if you're willign to run a converter or not before you make any decisions on the cam. Regardless of which cam you decide to run, you will want to have headers and an intake to help it breath.

If it were me I would plan on running a circle D 3k stall, and something along the lines of a 216/220 like trick flow offers. It would give you a nice pop in power, much more on top, while maintaining a decent bottom end. With the 3k stall that would be a screamer.

If you dont want the converter, you'll want to go with a smaller cam not only for bottom end power, but to smooth out the idle and make it more enjoyable to drive. That rough idle you're after will show through in the way it drives at idle as well... a looser converter hides that and the truck honestly drives better with the cam/converter combo than cam only. Trust me I know from experience.

+1 for a decision on if you want to run a converter, this will give you a wider selection of camshafts.

Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions!

I went with a 3000 stall and it lets me run a 218/224@.050 on a 110LSA cam. This is how it sounds and it makes a bunch of midrange torque.
