Default I got a new toy

I just picked up a 99 GMC reg cab stepside 5.3 . I would like to rebuild the bottom end.Due to high mileage. Were do they sell kits? What is the stock horsepower and torque?Thanks for any help.

Stock HP for a 99 is 270, can't remember the TQ right now though...

The 99 5.3 is listed as having 265 hp @5200rpm and 320 ft-lb @ 4000rpm.

piece together a 6.0 longblock,injectors and a 02 PCM with a custom tune,drop it all in on a weekend.

That's what I would like to do but freakin California smog laws suck . I need to get more info on how far I could go with the engine to still pass smog. I don't want to put in the stock motor when smog time comes around and once the smog has been done put the stroker motor with no smog crap on it like back in the day with my brothers camaro.

Also why a 02 PCM? I have seen that on here a couple of times but didn't pay much attention to it.

The 99-00 PCM has some performance issues...false knock retard being a major one, especially if an aftermarket cam and springs are installed. The 99's also have smaller injectors than 00 and up (21lbs compared to 24.7lbs)
