I guess its my turn (tear down pics...)
Well, I pulled my motor a few months back before I left for sea and sent it to someone to get rebuilt. It had about 25,000 miles on it and at 17-18,000 miles a new cam was installed and the bottom end was inspected. I did abuse this motor pretty good and put a good amount of boost through it as well. I felt it needed a re-build before I continued putting more boost through it and upon tear-down my engine builder came across a few interesting things.
Piston skirts are nicely etched...
Pistons are nicely coated.
Here's a few pics of the cam lobes, builder says they were about ready to start flaking off had a few more miles been put on the engine.
I'm wondering if the new cam's pre-mature wear sent some gunk through the oil passeges and started the wear on the journal bearings. The Journal bearings were pulled 7-8,000 miles before this and they looked well enough...
Not as bad as seen on the most recent tear down...
And finally some pics of the cylinder walls, they look ridiculous... Supposedly the block was honed .10 over but I'm starting to doubt that it ever was, doesn't even look like it was touched or ever machined, hard to tell though.

Wow that sucks bud.
I hear the LS engines very picky on tolerences.
Glad you found it before you ruined the block or crank.
Did you cut the oil filter apart and what did it look like?

Nope stock 6.0L stroke.
Yup, actually to be precise, it was a 366 but after looking at the cylinder walls I'm thinking it was a 364 and was never honed to begin with. I could be wrong about that though, also I don't want to poop on anyone's parade so where this motor came from is not important.
Parts are on order and it should be finished in a couple weeks I hope. I'm re-using the block, switching up the heads and new rotating assembly. When I get the motor and take pics I'll post up info and what not.
I'm happy I decided to pull the motor before I ruined the block for sure. All the pictures were taken by the builder so when I get the parts back I'll take some better pictures of them, builder isn't re-using the crank because he didn't feel comfortable with how much he'd lose off the bearing surfaces to clean it up.
I never did cut it apart, I shipped the motor off to him, cheap oil filter included. I'll ask him if he still has it laying around and to cut it up and check it out.
