i need cam swap for dummies!
i am about to do a cam swap since i will be replacing those freakin lifters so i was wondering what is a mild cam cam for a 4.8 with just the setup in my sig. i dont want anything crazy at all since its a dd and goes on trips and has to be reliable and not kill my vaccum or mpg if it could. also what springs would be good to run with it and any other things that need to be done or good tricks to use. all help is more than appretiated!!

Depends on your engine and tune really so guesses are only guesses. With a lesser cam I've felt the 4.8L pull hard as hell to 6500 in hirdlej's truck just running the 01 LS6 cam. Yours will pull even harder in the mid range and upper RPM with that 212/218 cam.

also do these engines have flat tapit lifters? if so is it good to change to roller lifters and what work is involved. sorry about all the questions. where to get that cam and how much? why is it so much better than that ls6 cam?

ls6 cam is pretty decent in a 4.8, but the 212/218 is a bit better. power comes in a bit earlier with the lower LSA, and pulls a little harder. i have had both in my old 4.8, the 212/218 was better for me. i had the 3K stall behind it also.
pulled all the way to 6500, and i had the low lift 522/529 version on a 114 LSA.
comp has them for around $400... or look in the classifieds on here. z06 cams go for $250, give or take... have seen them as cheap as $125
you can expect around 25+ rwhp from a tuned cam install.
