I agree with Gonzo do something else besides gears if you had 3.24s it would be a different story. Taking the cats off helped my truck ALOT in the range you are talking about.

I'll cut the cats a little later after I get some more mods so I can send my pcm off to have it re-tuned for a bunch of stuff. Gonzo, I've actually spent a lot of time studying the fastest truck list and it's helped with some decisions. I may still go with the gears though because I can trade my HPP3(which I don't need anyone) for some new 4.10's, so I'll only be out the install. Thanks for the help,

Cody

I gather you will still have to pay someone to install youyr cheap set of gears, you could likely still be over charged. What you should do is save you $(only if your seriouse about going fast) and buy a used 6.0.There are guys on this forum that go fast, there are guys that spent a lot of money on mistakes to go fast and along the way they always have problems and issues with there rides. then there are guys that run strong and have no break downs and do not spend a t lot of money getting to there goals. You pick your path.

I won't have the truck long enough to drop a 6.0 in it. The truck is an 04 and only has 15k miles on it, so the last thing it needs is a motor swap. I want to hit N/A high 12's and I'll be happy. As for the gears, I was recommended a place that does it right for $125-150. The gears are actually AAM's, so they aren't just a "cheap set of gears", thanks for the help though.

I'd skip doing gears, going from 3.73's to 4.10's is hardly noticeable in terms of performance. The only real way to get better top-end performance is to let the engine breath better at the upper end of the RPM range, the only way to do this is to go the way you don't want to go....with a heads/cam swap. you could try SLP's 1.85 rockers but I'm not sure the price is worth the farily small performance gain

Headers and a good torquey mid-range cam helped mine a bunch. I pull hard in 2nd from about 65-85mph. If I punch it in 3rd at about 75, it doesn't pull to bad. It still outpulls the I/E single cab dodge hemi It pulls alot better with the 3.90s vs the 3.42s.
