Default I need motor swap ideas on a tahoe

I just got a 99 police tahoe and was told the motor is messed up but have not yet had a chance to check it out to see what is wrong with it. So if the motor is messed up I was thinking about swaping the 5.7 to a 6.0 but was not sure if it was posible? I am on a small budget because I am in the process in buying another house. So would it be easier to just beef up another 5.7, throw a 6.0 in it or is there another option ot there? I also would need it street legal and pass emissions. Any help would be appreciated and links to anything would help even more thanks.

i think you can find some 6.0 fairly cheap on here. Search the classifieds, I'm sure someone has one.

I helped a friend of mine swap a 6.0 into his 99 obs tahoe. The main issues were you need brackets for the motor mounts, the correct flexplate if you plan to still use the LT1 trans, and a wiring harness for the new computer.

Would I have to upgrade my fuel pump or anything or just go with a walbro fuel pump?

The stock fuel pump on your tahoe should be plenty for a stock 6.0L if it isn't already on the way out. A member on another forum ran a ramjet 502 with a 200 shot in his 2000 Tahoe limited (which is basically a police tahoe like yours) and didn't have fueling issues with the stock pump. I had no issues either with the stock pump on my previous setup with the whipple at 10 psi. I am planning on running the stock pump with the heads/cam 6.0L I'm swapping in.

a 383 stroker out of your 5.7 block would be the easiest swap. Will look stock too.

Where is the best place to get the stroker kit?

Lots of places out there that offer 383 stroker kits, too many to count. I don't want to post non-sponsor links. You want a kit that is for a 1 piece rear main seal block. I prefer 6" rods over the factory 5.7" rods as there is less cyl wall thrust with a longer rod. That coupled with a zz4 camshaft, new valvesprings, headers, and a tune and you should have a torquey tahoe.

After further research it looks like I am going to go with a 383 stroker because the cost for the 6.0 swap is not there. I am buying a house and still am trying to put my typhoon back together. Maybe once I get tired of the 383 I will throw in the 6.0 with a 4l80 in the hoe?
