I Need Some Help in Getting the Right Valve Seals for my 5.3 Engine? Please Help!
Hi Guys!
Well, I am tired of fitting GM about my smoking Silverado.
I am going to have the valve seals put in myself.
I know it is under warranty but when GM say NO! It takes a lawyer and that takes lots of money say $3,000 to get it started. I don't have this money so I need your guys help!
The dealers I have talked to say that there are two revisions in seals. They say that some of the 2001 5.3 have one type of seals and the latter 2001 and 2002 takes the newest seals.
Question what is the best valve seal to use?
I just need two know if you guys know anything about this. Some people say this new seal they have out know is not as good as the old one. DO You Guys know anything about this.
Thanks Lee! Your help and advice is much needed and desperately appreciated!!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

UPDATE!
Well I found that the first valve seal on the 2001, on the exhaust valve was 14.4mm.
The Second Revision the Exhaust valve was 22.0mm so they have increased in size.
What do you guys think about this? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

My 2000 does not smoke at all. How did your catch can do? Did you try putting the cats back on? (Or was that someone else?)

Hi CrashDudeHomie, how ya doing?
Yes I have cats and it does it. I ran a can of SeaFoam Through it on level ground and Drove it a 1/2 mile and stopped waiting to turn around i noticed that the intake still had some Seafoam in it. You know I am not missing any oil on the dipstick yet though and the oil change has about 750 miles on it. I wonder if the intake has some spot were oil could just puddle and slowly seep into the head. Dont know Im puzzled

Nope. Sorry. I talked to a guy at a machine shop last week. He said he would need to see the seals to get the correct parts. He says he has seen several different ones come through (including the LS1s I think).
