most your diesel generators run at 1800-1900.. so target 2000rpms and adjust your pulleys.. it will run forever at 2000rpms and with low load it should sip fuel.
Are you tuning this?

Something to remember, all these #'s you guys are looking at are NO load. Load it up and the Torque will climb but you also have to have a way to open the throttle up so it doesnt kill it. Long story short, at idle and idle only you are not going to be able to load up those generators. When I say Idle I mean Idle RPM and Idle throttle position, now if you open the throttle up and load it up you could within reason power some stuff at idle RPM but throttle and fuel demand would not be idle.

No I dont tune. Probably should for this project, but dont have any software right now.
2000 rpms with the proper cam choice, I agree that the power necessary is attainable while sipping fuel.
thanks for the replies guys, helps me set target rpms, and adjust expectations. experimenting with the possibility of a total electric driveline in a custom chassis for commuting, while still retaining the ballistic nature of instant torque and all wheel drive. Power mostly coming from the generator heads, but supplemented with harvesting technologies (KERS and TERS). Right now its all about fuel usage vs max range. Aiming for ~50-60 MPGe. We shall see.
