I'd do a cam, stall, shift kit w/servos, dyno tune and some thorleys if you have the money. thats doing the installs yourself. If you wanted to go N20 now you could substitute a good kit for the shift kit and thorleys, just depends on what you're lookin for.

-Headers (mids or longtubes)---$600
-Cam (VHP 210/218-112LSA)--$375
-02 LS6 Springs---$100
-3000 Stall (TCI)---$450
-Dyno-tune---$350-400
All that should take off around a whole second off your 1/4 mile times.
An ASP Crank Pulley is worth a tenth in quarter, it's a good investment, just expensive-$250.

I'll tell you exactly what to buy. You won't have to waste any money on bull crap like me.
start with: ASM headers with exhaust, 2600-3000 stall, custom programming, and air intake system.
With some nitrous, you'll be among the fastest in this forum.
boy, If I could do it all over again!

I've spent $1300 on just exhaust and tuning and that doesn't count the $1500 lap top I use for the tuning. If you can put together an ideal setup for $2000, you rock.
It adds up fast. I'd just take it slow so you don't have to limit yourself to a $2000 dollar budget.

You don't have to have a lap top to do it. A power inverter will work just fine. OR a really long cable if you are just doing the tuning in your garage. RS232-485 cable can go a long way
