If you are up in MI already I would also go with them since they are right in your state. You could pick it up in person!

Anyone closer to us I suggest you come down and see our operation too! We do everything in house ourselves and I've taught this stuff for a living so I'm used to twenty guys looking over my shoulder. Doesn't bother me at all unlike some engine builders! You're all welcome to some in and tour the place and ask me any questions you want. I might even be able to answer a few!

Nope. $300-500 will buy you a nodular iron crank for a SBF or SBC. If you plan to keep the revs <6500 and under about 600hp those are fine. RPMs kill more internals than anything else. They flex (very little but they do) under load. Hell for ~$400 you can make a 351W Ford into a 392" motor. You use stock 351W rods (5.955") and 302 pistons (1.61 comp height). Just like the ol' 350 can be a 383 for cheap. I hardly see anyone not make those strokers now as it's so cheap.

racer7088.... what sort of time frame are you talking about for those nod iron cranks? I don't need a 4340 forged crank, the drive line would fall apart before the motor did. Nod iron is more than adequate for me along with a set of I-beam rods. I was looking to say south of 6400rpms and 370-420rwhp with a fat torque curve.

racer7088...

Also, do you build SBF's? I'm looking to get a good refresh on a roller 302 I have. It's got ~100K on it (still with crosshatching in the bores).

I was thinking on a setup like this...

honed cylinder bores
stock crank and rods (not looking for big power)
Federal Mogul bearings
ARP hardware (prolly main studs w/ girdle)
factory forged pistons w/ TSS rings
Melling oil pump
new gaskets

That's my plan for the bottom end. Top end and cam are...

AFR 165s (58cc chambers) w/ 1.7:1 rollers
218/224 .512/.512 114LSA
Street intake manifold (Cobra, 'Brock, or TFS)
30lbs/hr injectors (already have MAF system)

Ideas on appx power that should make? I'm thinking 275-300rwhp through a built auto and 4.10:1 gears.

If you build this motor, could I lend a hand in its construction? I'd love to build my own but never have and really don't want to mess anything up as I've never gotten that far down. I've been down to a shortblock in a vehicle only to do a topend rebuild.

Lemme know.

We do a Callies crank, Eagle H beam rods, Diamond Pistons, pins, rings and main & rod bearings for $3499.00 this is a balanced kit, ready to go!!

I also do the Eagle kits for $2500.00, with Diamond Pistons. These are unbalanced.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.

inexpensive and stroker dont really go together, especaily in the LS1 based motors.

BTW; you are better off spending the cash on top end if you are only rebuilding to gain cubes

Who said that I wouldn't do a cam and clean the heads while the motor is out?

A small motor w/ a 4" stroke is a torque monster...just what a truck needs.

Sounds cool although I would do the very reasonable SIR style I-beams so you can use floating pins and don't have to drop any money into the stock rods. You might also want to deck the engine and line hone it but it depends on the block otherwise you may be .025 in the hole or more and have no compression with the small 306. I wouldn't do the girdle and if you do you really need to line hone it as well! You can watch me do anything you want. I'm used to teaching crowds of people.
