Info on 2002 V6 to V8
Does anyone have any information on what is involved with this conversion. I have a customer that is ready to go forward on the swap. I know I can do this swap and there's not much to it, I just wanted to know what parts will be involved and try to get most of them before I start. Anybody have any info or a site for this swap.
I'm swapping the 4.3L for an LS6 engine, 2002 Silverado/auto.
Is there anything else besides this stuff:
v8 harness
engine
mounts
pcm
-will the starter fit
-will the radiator be big enough
-will the clutch fan fit
any other info is appreciated,
allen

My brother would be highly interested in any info you can come up with on this swap. He has a line on a donor truck.....just dont know if it will be an easy swap.

If it's a 2002 you don't need a PCM, the 4.3 uses the same one as the LS1/Vortec engines. It just has to be reflashed for the V8.
The 4.3 starter won't work.
That's all I know for sure.

There was someone a while back that swapped a v6 for a v8 in the fbod forums ... you might could get some info from that. I would think the clutch fan would fit ... but I dunno. I think the smallest radiator they put in the trucks is a 28" which is what comes in all the half tons unless you are lucky enough to get the bigger one.
I don't know about the starter. The 4.3 is based off of the old sbc, just minus 2 cylinders. I think, but not sure on this, the starter is different for the ls1 breed motors.
What are you gonna do with that 4.3 once you get it out? I might be interested in it if the price is right. I've been wanting something to build for my boat.

Thanks 1badhd and speartech on the info. I should have put flash pcm instead of pcm.
I'll check out the other forum flyer, thanks.
I think it's def. worth it, instead of just buying a v8 truck.
i'll keep you guys posted,
allen

01 is the break point.
2000 and earlier uses an older Vortec PCM on the 4.3, 5.0, and 5.7.
2001 and newer: LS1 PCM across the board. (4.3, 4.8, 5.0, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0, 8.1)
