Default Installed Cam and Headers in Vortec, Not Running Real Good

I recently installed a Comp 212/218 .488/495 on 112 and Hooker Comp headers and exhaust with 2 1/4 cats and Magnaflows. Sounds okay. Cam is hardly noticeable at idle. It's died a couple of times when put in gear but that's been rare. Full throttle performance is less than stellar but not too bad. Definitely shifting way too soon. I never drove the truck until after cam install(not my truck). It has a light miss at light cruise rpm only. Never misses under load. Code said random misfire or something to that effect but I can't find a reason why it would misfire. New plugs and wires and cap looks good. I plugged EGR port in intake manifold. Not sure what affect that has on anything. Pretty sure owners gonna let me send the computer off for a tune but I don't think that has anything to do with the miss. Any tips from the pros? Or amateurs? Truck is a 96 Chebby, auto. Thanks

Where the valve guides trimmed for he extra lift? If not, they have to be trimmed. Also if they were not trimmed check your push rods. I bet some are bent.

Actually the PCM might be adjusting for decreased vacuum and other characteristics of the larger camshaft, creating the part throttle performance issues. The misfire code may be a false code caused by the larger cam. Of course, recheck all the mechanicals first, and definitely get the PCM tuned to compensate for the new cam.

Did you get +.50 locks and retainers? If not max you can handle is .480 instead of the .530 with them. Is your truck tuned for the cam? Yes with my 218/224 .570/.565 113LSA cam you cant notice it in my 383.

Yes I installed the +.o50 locks along with beehive springs. It'll actually pop a bit when I put it in 3rd gear manuallly and hold it around 65mph or 2000rpm or so. It has the stock tune.

Changed plugs and wires. Same problem. Also rechecked lifter preload. No problems there. Plugs were all on the dark side for sure. Do you think a tune will solve my problems?

I'd be willing to bet that the tune will help out your situation.

You put a cam (with narrow LSA) and exhaust without tuning for them, I'm not really surprised its running odd!

Get that to a reputable dyno tuner and I'll be surprised if your not surprised in how much better it runs!
